ISIS terrorist threat: Karnataka coast on high alert

Mangaluru: High alert has been sounded in Karnataka coast on the basis of intelligence information that ISIS terrorists have left Sri Lanka for Lakshadweep islands. Kerala has already been warned of the threat.

A close vigil on the lines of Kerala is being maintained by the state police as there is possibility of the terrorists trying to sneak into Karnataka while on their way to Lakshadweep.

Police personnel along with the Coast Guard and Indian Navy have been on high alert all along west coast of India since the ISIS attacks occurred in Sri Lanka. The fishermen at high seas have been asked by the Karnataka Coastal Security Police Force personnel to be careful and relay back any suspicious boat movements.

Navy ready

Speaking on the situation Cdr Sridhar Warrier said that the navy is fully prepared to face any kind of aggression and that the navy has been keeping close watch in the coast. According to the intelligence reports, the terrorists are moving in a white coloured boat and coastal security police stations, coast guard and navy have also increased their vigilance and patrols. The fishermen are also assisting the vigilance effort by keeping out an eye for any suspicious activity in the sea.

As per the reports, the terrorists plan to conduct their operation through Kerala coast. The Coast Guard and navy have been checking boats which look suspicious and a plan of action is ready at the joint operation centre of southern Navy at Kochi to browbeat any kind of attack.

Gangolli

High level vigilance is being maintained at Gangolli port too in the backdrop of the information that around 15 suspected ISIS terrorists coming towards Kerala coast from Sri Lanka. Joint teams of navy and coastal security police have been keeping watch with their boats moving at around for an average of five hours every day in the sea. Armed police have been stationed at all points where the boats arrive after fishing.

All security measures have been undertaken and there is no need for panic among the people, assures Coastal Security Police force personnel.
