Bengaluru: The Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP) has demanded that the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) should provide an option to write their examinations in local languages including Kannada.

The issue has raked up again after a notification to fill over 3,000 clerk posts in 11 banks, of which 407 are for Karnataka was issued recently.

The notification states that the preliminary part of the examination will have three tests – English language, numerical ability and reasoning ability and the main examination will have four – general/financial awareness, general English, reasoning ability and computer aptitude and quantitative aptitude.

Except for the English language test all other tests will be available in English and Hindi.

This has been the cause of contention with many language activists for the past few years who have been demanding that the other tests also be made available in local languages.

KSP president Manu Baligar has already written regarding this to the chief minister to urge the Central government to change the rules of the IBPS exam.
