Karnataka CM Writes Union Finance Minister to Exempt Handmade Products from GST

Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has reportedly written to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to exempt handmade products including handlooms, handicrafts, tools, jewellery items and others from Goods and Service Tax (GST) as manufacturers, suppliers of handmade products have registered protest against GST imposed on the products.

Chief Minister has reportedly urged the union minister to immediately take measures to include handmade products in the GST exemption list. Renowned Kannada theatre personality Prasanna is already in an indefinite hunger strike against the imposition of GST on handmade products in the state capital. Prasanna is on indefinite hunger strike for the last five days demanding total waiver of GST on handmade products, saying it would cause the collapse of the rural economy of the country.
