Karnataka Govt aims to stop child marriage within 5 years

Bengaluru: Karnataka state chief minister Siddaramaiah has asked the concerned authorities to take measures to free the state from child marriage within a time span of five years. He was speaking after inaugurating the website by Karnataka State Child Right protection Commission and ‘Stop Child Marriage,’ campaign in Vidhana Soudha on Saturday.

Child marriage is still prevailing in the society due to socio economic causes. Therefore the state government is planning to hold continues campaign against child marriage in the next five years. The rate of child marriage in 2005 was 41.2% and his has been come down to 23.2% at present chief minister said.

The state government has implemented Justice Shivaraj Patil report on child marriage. The government has also made an amendment to child marriage act and has sent to the union government for approval asking the persons to sent jail who support child marriage, he said.
