Karnataka Govt May Raise Caste Based Reservation from 50% to 70% Soon: Chief Minister

Hassan: Karnataka state government will soon take a decision on the proposal to raise existing reservation percentage from 50% to 70% in all educational institutions  and government run offices in the state, said Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah speaking in a event held in Hassan on Sunday. Raise in reservation percentage is likely to support backward castes for their active participation in the state affairs, he said.

Neighbouring Tamil Nadu and Telangana states increased their percentage of reservation to 70% and there is no limit is fixed in the constitution on reservation for backward castes. Karnataka government will soon release its Caste Census data  and based on the outcome the government will take steps to support backward castes in the state, chief minister added.

The state government has already notified 2 to 4 acre land in Bengaluru to distribute the same to the backward caste organisations of the state to start educational institutions and other establishments, Siddaramaiah added.
