Bengaluru: The State's education department is planning to reduce the Dussera holidays and make Saturdays working days in its new academic calendar.
Due to the COVID-19-induced lockdown, the calendar for the academic year 2020-21 was completely disrupted.
As a result of this, the department is devising alternative schedules for academic year in the State.
The usual academic calendar consists of 318 days with 65 holidays and 4 days listed as discretionary holidays.
However, for the 2020-21 academic year, there will be modifications that will be done by the State Research and Training Department.
According to sources, a 250-day academic year will be held without any extra holidays. Dussera holidays will be reduced to 4-5 days. Saturdays will be full working days and Sundays could have half working days or alternative Sundays will be a holiday.
The department will submit the draft calendar to the government and only after the government's approval it will come into effect, a senior official from the department informed.
