Karnataka High Court Rejects Plea for Abortion from Pregnant Minor Rape Victim

Bengaluru: Karnataka high court rejected a petition by a minor pregnant rape victim seeking an order from the court to direct the medical experts for an abortion. The court rejected the plea on Thursday after medical experts from a hospital opined that abortion may turn as a threat to the life of the victim as she is a 5 month pregnant.

The girl found pregnant after she was raped by a youth on the assurance of marriage after sex. Earlier, the victim moved to high court after doctors in a hospital in the city rejected her request for an abortion.

Hearing appeal of the victim, single member bench of the high court rejected the petition after medical experts from a well-known hospital of the city stated that the mother may lost her life if she opt for the procedure. The accused in the rape case is now a prisoner under trial as the police registered a case against him under IPC Section 376 and POCSO Act.
