Generally, KERC conducts its surveys and revises electricity rates from April 1 of each year. This year the process was halted due to the lockdown.

It was reported that as the present lockdown restrictions in the State are not as stringent as last year, the government may not postpone the hike for long.

Mangaluru Electricity Supply Company (MESCOM) has reportedly recommended a hike of Rs 1.67 per unit for areas under its jurisdiction.

Prashant Kumar Mishra, Managing Director of MESCOM said, “KERC has already completed its public hearing on rates revision. We have presented our demand. No orders have yet been received from KERC or the government so far.”
