Karnataka: Supreme Court stays release of class 5, 8, 9, and 11 board result

New Delhi/Bengaluru: In a significant development, the Supreme Court has intervened to halt the annoumcemnet of the results for board examinations conducted for classes 5, 8, 9, and 11. This decision comes as the apex court stayed an order by the Karnataka High Court permitting these exams to proceed for government, aided, and unaided schools adhering to the state curriculum.

The Supreme Court’s action follows scathing criticism directed at the lawyers representing the Karnataka government. Justices Bela M Trivedi and Pankaj Mithal expressed dismay, asserting, “You have ruined the entire education system of the country. Now you want to complicate it. Please don’t do that.”

The bench’s stay order effectively postpones the declaration of examination results for the aforementioned classes. Initially, the board exams were conducted last month following a directive from the Karnataka High Court.

On March 22, a division bench led by Justice K. Somasekhar and Justice K. Rajesh Rai upheld the state government’s decision to proceed with the Class 5, 8, 9, and 11 board exams.

Until further notice from the Supreme Court, schools are instructed not to publish the results. The High Court, which initially authorized the board examinations in March, had mandated the continuation of the suspended examinations. Consequently, schools conducted the exams. However, the Supreme Court has now issued a restraining order on result announcements while the matter is under review.
