Karnataka to Recommend for Premature Release of 93 Prisoners

Bengaluru: Karnataka state cabinet has decided to recommend to the governor for a premature release of 93 life term convicts from 7 central jails on the ground of good behaviour.

Speaking in a press conference after a cabinet meeting on Thursday, state minister for law and parliamentary affairs TB Jayachandra informed, the list of 93 prisoners who sentenced to life term serving their jail term in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Kalburgi, Belagavi, Dharwad, Bellary and Vijayapura central prisons. Recommendation will be made on the grounds of age of the prisoner and his behavior, minister clarified.

The list of 93 prisoners includes 86 male and 7 female jail inmates. The prisoners’ list includes 41 jail inmates of Bengaluru central prison followed by Mysuru (16), Belagavi (13), Kalburgi (4), Viajayapura (7) Dharwad (3) and Bellary (9).

Earlier, following some technical reasons, the governor had rejected a list of prisoners for premature release on the occasion of Independence Day. Now, the government has corrected such errors and prepared a list of prisoners for their premature release from the jails, minister added.
