Karnataka to take up Rs 1,500 cr project to treat Bengaluru's Vrishabhavathi River

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government is planning to take up a Rs 1,500 crore project to treat the water in Bengaluru’s Vrishabhavathi River.

It is said that the sacred river originated from the Bull Temple in the Basavanagudi area in Bengaluru.

According to state Tourism, Environment and Ecology Minister CP Yogeeshwara, the river is polluted and not fit for usage.

The minister said that around 40% of Bengaluru’s sewage water joins the Byramangala lake through the Vrishabhavathi river. This scheme aims to treat wastewater scientifically in three stages to fill tanks and lakes.

It can be used for agriculture purposes and farmers in 19 villages of the Ramanagara district adjoining Byramangala Lake, including Ittamodu, Ramanahalli, Godahalli, and Byramangala can use the water.
