Kaup: Stone inscription discovered at Allur confirmed to be from Vijayanagar empire era

Kaup: A stone inscription that was found during the jeernoddhara of the Sri Mahatobhara Vishweshwara Temple in the taluk here has been found by historians to be an inscription of Vijayanagar emperor Krishnadevaraya from 1509 AD.

The study of the stone inscription was led by the Archaeological Research Centre, Udupi’s director SA Krishnaiah and the history and antiquity researcher studying under him Shrutesh Acharya Moodabelli.

The inscription is carved in granite and has 12 rows. It is two feet high and wide.

At the top of the inscription is a sun and moon followed by Nandi, lamps, Shivalinga, regal sword, and flower carvings.

This inscription mentions that it was made in the presence of the ruler of Mangaluru-Barkur Rathnappa Thirumalaraya Chowta and Kinika Hegde.
