VR Arun Kumar, 37, the Station House Officer of the Nooranad police station in Kerala’s Alappuzha district, was on patrol with the police driver around 6 p.m. on Sunday when he observed a wanted suspect, Sugathan, 48, near his scooter on the roadside at Para Junction.
When a police vehicle pulls up alongside him in the video, a man is seen resting by the side of the road. The man assaults the police officer with a machete from the foot of his two-wheeler vehicle. The courageous officer repels the assailant and pins him to the ground. When the officer and the cop both fell to the ground, passers-by rushed to assist them.

Sugathan attacks Arun Kumar with the machete, attempting to chop him in the neck. The SI blocks the swinging machete at first, injuring his fingers in the process, but he doesn’t give up and continues to grapple Sugathan. As they both collapse to the ground, Arun Kumar overpowers his opponent and sits on top of him, removing the weapon. His driver joins them, and the two of them cram Sugathan into the police car.
Arun Kumar, who had only been in charge at Nooranad for a year, was taken to the hospital and given seven stitches for his wounded fingers. The Kerala Police Department posted a video of the attack on their Facebook page, which has received about one lakh likes and has been shared by about 10,000 people.
