K’taka govt plans to build transit homes for migrant workers

Amid Covid-19, several migrant workers were stranded on the road with no place to live and no proper food and water facilities.

Now,0 Karnataka government plans to build four transit homes in Bengaluru, each with a capacity to accommodate at least 3,000 workers.

According to ETtimes, the transit home will have kitchens for workers to cook their own meals. They will pay a nominal maintenance fee for the stay. Each project is expected to cost Rs 50 crore.

It is said that the concept is based on Kerala’s Apna Ghar’ project
