K'taka govt releases Rs 15 cr for victims of caste violence

Bengaluru: Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said that his government has released Rs 15 crores as compensation for victims of caste violence on Wednesday, November 11.

He stated this in a meeting of the State-level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee that checks cases of atrocities against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

The chief minister explained that out of Rs 30 crore allocated as compensation, Rs 15 crore has been allocated now to Deputy Commissioners of districts for payment to victims. He added that the DCs must ensure that the compensation amount paid through the Dr Ambedkar Foundation by the Central government must also be given to the victims.

Yediyurappa also instructed the DCs to hold the district and taluk-level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee meeting every quarter and take steps to redress the grievances of victims of caste violence.

Social Welfare Minister B Sriramulu, Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister JC Madhuswamy, Chief Secretary TM Vijayabhaskar and other officers were present in the meeting.
