K'taka govt revises guidelines for online classes

Bengaluru: In view of the feedback received by many parents regarding the time spent by their children for online classes, Primary and Secondary Education Minister K Suresh Kumar constituted an expert committee to review the guidelines for these classes.

In a letter written to the Department of Public Instruction’s Commissioner, Suresh stated to make sure that all online classes are conducted as per the guidelines set by the Central government and the report of the committee.

As per the revised guidelines:
– Classes 1 to 5 can have three online classes a week held every alternate day of 30 to 55 minutes.

– Classes 6 to 10 can have 5 online classes a week held of 30 to 45 minutes.

The expert committee’s report also recommends that online education should not become the norm and must be seen as complementary to offline education. Adding that online education must cease soon after schools are officially reopened.
