K’taka HC directs SHO to do community service for a week after he fails to register FIR

Bengaluru: The Kalaburagi bench of the Karnataka High Court has directed the Station House Officer (SHO) of Bazaar Police Station in Kalaburagi to clean the road in front of the police station for a week, for failing to take note of a complaint made by a mother whose son was allegedly abducted.

The order with this regard was passed by a division bench of Justices S Sunil Dutt Yadav and P Krishna Bhat while hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by Tarabai (55) from Minajgi Tanda in Kalaburagi.

“The entire development in the case after Suresh going missing discloses to us a very disturbing facet of the functioning of the police stations in this area of the State,” said Justice S Sunil Dutt Yadav and Justice P Krishna Bhat while hearing a habeas corpus petition.

“The problem, primarily, is one of the police officers not complying with the procedure prescribed under the Code of Criminal Procedure, which places a high premium on the guarantee of liberty of the individuals,” the court further stated.
