K'taka HC grants conditional bail to Murugha Math seer, but unlikely to be released from jail

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court granted conditional bail to Dr Shivamurthy Muruga Sharana of Chitradurga’s Muruga Matha in connection with one of the cases of sexual assault of minor girls. However, he will have to continue being in jail for now.

Shivamurthy Sharana, who has been in judicial custody for the past year in connection with serious charges under POCSO, has another case pending against him awaiting bail.

The High Court stipulated seven conditions for his bail in one of the cases, including surrendering his passport to the court, and two sureties to be provided. He is also barred from visiting Chitradurga.

The court also asked the seer to appear for court hearings through video conferencing.
