K’taka Schools to fully open from Oct 21 after Dasara holidays; Mid-day meals to be served

Bengaluru: Karnataka students of grades I to X should be ready to attend full-fledged classes immediately after the Dussehra vacation, as the government has plans to reopen schools completely.

Minister for Primary and Secondary Education B.C. announced that the government will re-start physical classes in full swing for classes 1 to 10 in the state from October 21. The students would also be provided with hot meals, he said.

The minister said that the private school fee issue will be reviewed after obtaining a copy of the court order and appropriate direction will be issued by the government.

“We will also hold a meeting of parents and private board boards,” he said.

Further, the minister said the proposal for forming a fee control committee on the lines of those implemented in Andhra Pradesh ANd Telangana, would also be examined and appropriate action will be taken.

Bridge Courses for PUC 

Last year, the syllabus of SSLC was cut down by 30 percent for the students who are now studying in first year PUC. To correct this learning deficiency, the government is working on a bridge course, he said.

He said that the complete syllabus will be taught to the students pursuing SSLC this academic year. There are plans to hold special classes on Saturdays and Sundays to achieve this, he informed.

Textbook revision

The education minister also informed the media that a committee headed by Rohith Chakratheertha has been formed to look into the complaints about inaccuracies in the textbooks.

Once the committee submits the report, the school textbooks will be revised, he said.
