Bengaluru: Opposition parties in Karnataka cried fowl at the Central government’s decision not to select tableau from Karnataka for the Republic Day parade again this year triggering a controversy.
Speaking to reporters, Congress leader and Member of Parliament D K Suresh said that Karnataka being a progressive state with rich history, successive governments at the Center had allowed the state to showcase its rich cultural heritage during the republic day parade. This year also Karnataka’s tableau has not been allowed, he said.
D K Suresh accused the Center of meting out “injustice” to the state. He also accused the Union government of being unfairly prejudiced. “Gujarat is being given top priority while Karnataka is being given a step-motherly treatment,” he said.
“This will not be tolerated,” he said and demanded the wrongful decision be corrected. “The so-called double-engine government is doing double acting,” Suresh said adding that a protest will be held if the issue is not sorted out.
