K'taka women stage strike demanding liquor ban

Bagalkot: Women from various parts of Karnataka -Ballari, Raichur, Tumakuru and Chikmagalur districts have descended on the Sangamantha Temple, Koodalasangma on the banks of the Krishna river launching an indefinite strike for their single demand – a total ban on the distribution of liquor in the state.

The strike is being organised by the ‘Karnataka Madya Nisheda Andolana’ (Karnataka Liquor Prohibition Movement). Along with them approximately fifty social organisations and some religious leaders have shown support for the strike.
