Kundapur: Woman driver booked for abusing cops

Kundapur: The city police have filed a case against a woman from Kundapur who allegedly obstructed police Assistant Sub-Inspector from discharging his duty and hurled abuses at him.

Reportedly, Taranath and another police officer were patrolling near Hemmady junction and saw Shanthi Picardo driving her car without wearing a seat belt, the police asked her to pay a fine of Rs 500 for driving her car without wearing a seat belt. But she did not obey and hurled abuses at him.

She also refused to accept notice served under the Motor Vehicles Act and verbally abused the Assistant Sub-Inspector Taranath.

The incident happened on January 21, when Shanthi was going from Kundapur to Byndoor and the video of her verbally abusing the cop went viral on social media.

Kundapur town police registered a case under sections 353, 504 of IPC and 179 of MV Act.

Meanwhile, Shanti claimed that she had fastened the seat belt only around her waist as she suffered a wound in the neck. She further added that the police threatened to not return her documents if she did not pay them the amount, however, the video recording forced them to return her documents who feared being defamed.
