LED effect for government offices, roads!

Mangaluru: The city is going to get even smarter through the installation of LED lights at government offices and along the roads henceforth.

A plan has been created under the Smart City scheme for the changing the lighting system at government offices and roads to LED lights and the work on installing the LED lights will begin within 15 days. The institution which has won the tender will be visiting the offices in another 3-4 days and conduct inspection post which they shall procure the lights and start the work on its installation. The city’s prominent government offices like the deputy commissioner’s office and the mini Vidhana Soudha and all the offices will have their earlier lights replaced by LED lights. Similarly, all the street lights in the city will be replaced by LED lights.

Places where LED lights will be installed

The LED lights will be installed at the prominent government offices in the city including police commissioner’s office, ACP office, Bunder police station, Main post office Pandeshwar, Fisheries Development Corporation, Fire brigade office Pandeshwar, Telecom office Pandeshwar, Forest conservation office Pandeshwar, commercial taxes office Pandeshwar, mini Vidhana Soudha, Lady Goshen hospital, RTO office, Wenlock hospital, Town Hall, Deputy commissioner’s office, BSNL telephone exchange building, Fisheries department Bunder, Deputy Office of Public Works Department, Geological Survey of India, Old port office, Vettal Compound Kudroli, Urban Primary Health Centre Jeppu, IGP office, guest house and the district armed reserve force building will be fitted with LED lights.

Led lights along roads in 60 wards

Not just being limited to government offices, the street lights in the 60 wards coming under the jurisdiction of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) will be replaced by LED lights. A government-private participation plan has been created for this. Presently, the tender process for this is in progress. With the installation of LED lights at government offices and roads in the first, it may inspire the general public to make use of LED lights in their homes as well.

Previously, normal lights were being used at the government offices functioning in the city because of which there was a greater waste of fuel. Due to this reason and with the aim to reduce the use of energy, LED lights are being installed at the cost of Rs 1.68 crore under the Smart City program. In this way, energy saving will be started from government offices itself.

Rs 1.68 crore expenditure

Till now, normal lights were being used at the government offices functioning in the city and because of this, more energy was getting wasted, Due to this reason and with the aim to reduce the energy being wasted, LED lights are going to be installed under the Smart City scheme at the expense of Rs 1.68 crore. In this way, energy savings will begin from government offices.

Awareness on conserving energy

“In order  to bring down the fuel usage burden on the government and to inculcate awareness amongst the general public regarding the conservation of energy, LED lights are being installed at government offices and street lights. LED lights consume 40% less energy in comparison to other lights,” said Narayanappa, Managing Director of Smart City Scheme
