However, it is learnt that the centre is considering certain relaxations, in order to boost economic activities, during the extended lockdown period. For this, the nation will be divided into three zones – red, orange and green – based on the number of coronavirus cases in those areas.

Areas with more than 15 covid 19 cases will fall under the red zone, while areas which reported below 15 cases and have not reported any increase in the number of positive cases will come under orange zone. Green zones will be districts where there is no COVID-19 case.

Depending on the zones, the Centre will decide upon the relaxations, said sources. They however said that a total lockdown will be observed in red zones.

The Prime Minister yesterday indicated that that relaxations will be allowed in the infrastructure sector, where lockdown hit the livelihood of thousands of migrant workers. Relaxations are also expected to be in the farm sector – crucial ahead of the harvest season.

The home ministry is also expected to come out with a list of sectors where relaxations are likely to be allowed. This will include food processing, aviation, pharmaceuticals, industries, construction etc. but social distancing will be the norm.
