Cars like to move, however in present circumstances, one cannot take go for long drives in their car.

Below are few tips to help you keep your car in good condition.

  1. Park in a shed: Parking in a shed is better if the car is to remain stationary for a long time. It’s safer and cleaner that way.
  2. Park the car in gear: The car needs to be on level ground and the hand brake should not be engaged, if the car is going to be parked for a long time.
  3. Fill the fuel tank: Major problems of leaving a car unused is rusting on the inside of the fuel tank. Make sure the tank is full and closed properly well.
  4. Disconnect the battery: If the car won’t be used for a long time, make sure you disconnect the battery. Alternatively, letting your engine run for 15-20 mins once every four days will ensure that the battery remains charged.
  5. Change engine oil regularly: As the oil keeps all moving parts well lubricated and traps dust, dirt and sediment, make sure to replace the dirty engine oil according to manufacturer specification.
  6. Keep the interior clean: Keeping the interior clean is very important and the car needs to be started every fourth or fifth day. Switch on the blower and air-conditioner as it helps removing dust and other particles that may be present in the cabin.
  7. Check tyre pressure: If left stationary for a longer period of time, car tyres could develop a ‘flat spot’ on the area where the tyre meets the ground. While these may disappear when you drive next time as the tyres warm up and return to their original shape you may also consider increasing your tyre pressure to the maximum cold pressure, to help tyres maintain shape. However, remember to return tyres to their correct pressure before your next use your car.
