LS polls: 75% voting in Udupi-Chikkamagaluru

Udupi: In comparison to all the elections so far, this times Lok Sabha election has recorded the highest voting at 75.8%.

The highest voting percentage (78%) was recorded at Udupi, Karkala and Sringeri Assembly constituencies while the least voting percentage (69%) was recorded from Chikkamagaluru constituency. Kundapur, Kaup recorded 77%, Mudigere73% and Tarikere recorded 72% of voting. 78.2% voting was recoded in Udupi while 73% voting was recorded in Chikmagalur district.

Demastering

Demastering started at St Cecily’s school in Udupi and the first EVM to reach here was from Hanumanth Nagar from Udupi-Puttur. In 2014 too, this was the first polling station to send the EVM. The units from Chikmagalur will reach with some delay. All the EVM’s of the 8 Assembly constituencies will be stored here.

Enthusiasm of youth/NRI voters

The chief reason for the increase in the voting is due to the enthusiasm of youth voters and of those who arrived to cast their franchise from out-of-station.

Technical problem

On Thursday, altogether 8 EVM’s and 53 VVPAT’s suffered technical problems due to which they were replaced.

The entire voting process occurred peacefully and without any confusion. The District Election Officer Hephsiba Rani Korlapati has conveyed her gratitude to all the voters for their cooperation in the successful conduction of a environment friendly election.

1957 least, 2019 highest

During the 2009, 2012 and 2014 Lok Sabha election, 68.17%, 68.10% and 74.46% of voting took place respectively. This time the highest amount of voting has taken place. The final calculation numbers may vary slightly on Friday. Of the 15,13,231 voters, 11,48,052 have cast their votes. The least amount of voting took place in 1952 at 52.38%.

Complementary weather

Since a few days, Udupi district was facing rising summer temperature but on Thursday, the temperature fell slightly. There was also a few clouds. Also, since there was good wind, there was no much scope for a sweaty day.

In the backdrop of voting, most institutions declared holiday. Since the shops remained closed until evening, there was also a fall in vehicular and human traffic in the city.
