Madikeri: Woman found hacked to death, police searching for local youth

Madikeri: A young woman was found brutally hacked to death at Nangala Village near Virajpete on Sunday evening.

The deceased woman, Aarati (24), is the daughter of local residents Madappaand Saraswati Couple. She was a BA graduate.

The incident occurred far from her home. A motorbike helmet was found at the crime spot and is said to belong to Tammayya, a local youth. Tammayya is missing since the incident.

Some other items including a mobile phone, liquor bottles, and a bottle containing poison were also found at the lakeside nearby, sources said.

Police suspect the incident to be a murder-suicide. It is suspected that Tammayya may have ended his life by jumping into the lake after killing Aarati.

On Monday, search and rescue personnel searched the lake for Tammayya’s body but found no clues till evening.

Madikeri Superintendent of Police Capt. Aiyappa M A visited the crime spot and reviewed the investigation.
