The complainant had seen the necessary items for his catering business on the popular e-commerce platform, BigBasket. Seeking a better deal, he engaged in a conversation with an individual claiming to be the account holder of BigBasket’s official Facebook page.
During their conversation, the stranger assured that he could provide the required items at a significantly lower price. To proceed with the transaction, the scammer shared a Facebook link named “BigBasket” and instructed him to provide his details there. Trusting the fraudulent account, the victim shared his credit card information, including the bank details.
However, it turned out to be a carefully orchestrated scheme to deceive him. A total of Rs 1.16 lakhs was withdrawn from his credit card account in a series of unauthorized transactions.
