Man sentenced to life for murdering his wife; fined Rs 1 lakh

Mangaluru: The 1st additional district and sessions court in Mangaluru has sentenced a man to life and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh for murdering his wife by hacking her to death using a sickle.

The convict is identified as William Lobo (37), a resident of Bettada Kadu in Kodagu and the victim is Blossom Lobo (30).

Failure to pay the fine will attract an additional punishment of 1 year, The couple has a son and the court has recommended the district legal service that the child be provided compensation.

Incident synopsis

After getting married, William Lobo and Blossom couple were residing at a rented house belonging to Janardhan Amin at Paldadi in Kodikal. William was working as a driver in Bengaluru while Blossom was employed at a private company in Mangaluru.

On Aug 8th 2017, William arrived to his house in an auto rickshaw at around 9:30 pm in the night. He had asked the driver of the rickshaw to park the vehicle a little away from the house. Having made up his mind to butcher his wife to death, William entered the house equipped with a sickle and once, locked the door from within. He then proceeded to murder his wife and her blood curdling scream brought the house owner and locals rushing to the house only to find Blossom lying in a pool of blood. . they immediately alerted the cops.

After carrying out the murder, William escaped through the back door house of the house, got in to the waiting rickshaw and made good his escape. He then surrendered himself at Urwa police station.

Investigation

The then police inspector of Urwa police station Ravish Nayak conducted the case investigation and submitted the chargesheet to the court. Altogether 26 separate evidences were presented during the court investigation. The evidence provided by the witness of the act proved the accused guilty of his crime.

The sentence was passed by Judge Sharada B and public prosecutor Raju Poojary argued on behalf of the prosecution.
