Preliminary investigation by the police revealed that Shaw and Nayar were at loggerheads over a property-related issue. On Saturday, Shaw arrived at Nayar’s house and shortly later neighbours heard screams coming from Nayar’s place. They rushed to investigate the matter and found that Nayar had been stabbed and was lying in a  pool of blood. Though Sham tried to flee the scene, he was caught by the locals who handed him to the Adoor police later.

A seriously injured Nayar was rushed to the hospital, but his life could not be saved. His dead body was shifted to Periyaram medical college hospital for post-mortem after examination in Kasargod general hospital.
