Mangalore University: 5% reservation for disabled persons

Ullal: In accordance to the government order to increase the reservation from 3% to 5% for disabled persons attempting higher education, Mangaluru University Educational Board meeting has given permission to provide a relaxation of age limit to 5 years for disabled persons seeking admission into the university for higher education and also to increase the reservation for the disabled students to 5% for higher education from the following academic year.

The meeting was held under the leadership of the university in-charge chancellor Prof Kishore Nayak at the Mangalore University Senate Hall. As per the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 implemented by the union government in 2017, Col 32 (1) states that 5% reservation should be provided for the admission of people with disability to pursue higher education and Col 32 (2) states that up to 5 years relaxation may be provided to people with disability for admission. Accordingly, the meeting decided to follow the rule. This facility will be provided to persons with disability at Mangaluru University from the next academic year.
