Mangaluru-born Rear Admiral Nelson D'souza takes charges as Commandant of MILIT

Pune: in a significant development, Rear Admiral Nelson D’souza assumed charge as Commandant of the Military Institute of Technology (MILIT) in Pune.

Rear Admiral D’Souza took over the position from Air Vice Marshal Vivek Blouria.

MILIT is crucial in training officers from the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard, along with participants from allied foreign nations. The institute focuses on the Defence Services Technical Staff Course (DSTSC), designed to equip mid-career officers for senior command and staff roles.

Lieutenant General JP Mathew, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (CISC), along with the staff at the headquarters, extended their best wishes to Rear Admiral D’Souza. They expressed their confidence in his leadership to develop the ‘Techno Warriors’ of the Indian Armed Forces.

Rear Admiral Nelson D’Souza, who hails from Mangaluru, completed his education at St. Aloysius College and earned his Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Communication from SJCE, Mysore. Commissioned into the Indian Navy in 1991, he has had a distinguished 33-year career.

Born to the late Lancelot D’Souza and Winnifred D’Souza from Kalpane, Kulshekar, Rear Admiral D’Souza is married to Shylon D’Souza, daughter of the late AB Rodrigues and Florine Rodrigues. They have two sons, Nihal and Shawn.

Before assuming his current role, Rear Admiral D’Souza served as the Chief Staff Officer (Technical) of the Eastern Naval Command. His other notable positions include Principal Director for Weapon Equipment at Naval Headquarters and General Manager (R) of Naval Dockyard, Mumbai. He has also served on various naval ships, including the aircraft carrier Viraat, Missile Corvette INS Kirch, and Destroyer INS Mysore as an electrical officer.

An alumnus of the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, where he completed his staff course, Rear Admiral D’Souza also undertook the Naval Higher Command Course at the Naval War College in Goa. In recognition of his exemplary service, he was awarded the Nau Sena Medal by the President of India in 2018.
