Mangaluru: CCB police arrest man with 6.7 kg of ganja

Mangaluru: In a significant operation to make Mangaluru a “Drug-Free City,” the CCB police have arrested a man transporting and selling ganja.

The accused, identified as Akhilesh (30), a resident of Ambalpadi, Udupi, was caught with 6.7 kilograms of ganja, valued at Rs 1.62 lakh, near Mulki-Bappanadu area, police said on Friday, December 13.

Acting on a tip-off, the police learned that the accused had procured ganja from Mumbai and was selling it to the public, including students, in the Mulki area. During the operation, the police also seized a mobile phone from the accused.

Akhilesh is no stranger to the law, with six prior cases registered against him. These include theft at Mangaluru East Police Station, drug trafficking at Malpe Police Station, assault at Hiriadka Police Station, and drug consumption at Udupi’s Women and Crime Police Station.

The arrest was made under the leadership of CCB ACP Manoj Kumar Nayak, with Inspector Shyam Sundar H.M., PSI Sudeep M.V., ASI Ram Poojary, Sheenappa, and other CCB personnel involved in the operation.

A case has been registered at Mulki Police Station for further investigation.
