Mangaluru: City Corp planning one park in each ward

Mangaluru: The City Corporation here will be implementing an innovative policy of ‘a park in each ward’ to beautify the city.

The Corporation decided to set up ‘mini parks’ in each ward as there is a lack of space in the city to build large scale parks.

The first phase of the project will be implemented in five wards of the city. Park development could be done through Corporation’s fund, Smart City or through the Public-Private Partnership model.

A mini-park has already been built in some parts of the city such as the Bijay Vivekananda Mini Park and the Karangalpadi Arise Awake Mini Park.

The upcoming mini-parks will have a playing area for children and seating and relaxing area for senior citizens.

Presently, the only major public park in the city is the Kadri Park along with some smaller parks such as the Tagore park at Bavutagudde, the park near Corporation Bank at Nehru Maidan, Mannagudde Park and Valencia.

Work is also underway at Gandhi Park in front of the Town Hall which will take a few more months before opening to the public.
