DK district received a total of 1,63,925 tonnes of fish in 2017-18. In 2018-19, 1,59,825 tonnes and the highest amount of 1,80,189 tonnes of fish in 2019-20.

Similarly, Udupi received 1,28,136 tonnes in 2017-18. 1,17,895 tonnes in 2018-19 and 1,21,479 tonnes in 2019-20.

Fishing was allowed up to June 14 this year. However, due to COVID-19 in the district, mechanized fishing boats came to shore on March 22.

Workers from Andhra, Odisha and Jharkhand moved back home because of the pandemic. This might lead to a shortage of workers in August when the fishing season begins, say many fishermen.
