Mangaluru Floods: Rains stop, fear hasn’t

Mangaluru: The incessabt rains of Tuesday completely drenched Mangaluru and caused difficulties to the people. The rain water entered homes and shops and threw the people’s lives into a chaos. People who stayed awake throughout Tuesday night were content to feel the heat on Wednesday. “What’s next?” is the fear that shadows them.

Due to the torrential rains, Managaluru city and rural areas suffered difficulty and loss. The district administration and Mangaluru corporation has taken up steps to provide compensation to people affected by the flood, yet the people will not receive the amount equivalent to their loss,

The city roads remember the cataclysmic flooding!

On one side, a compound wall collapses on the other, goods within the shop all got drenched in the rain water. All the roads and streets in the city now appear highlighted.

On Tuesday, What has not happened and where was more important than saying what has happened and where. By then the water level in the city had risen to dangerous levels. The roads which faced the onslaught of rains on Tuesday are telling its story today. There was a little fear in Jeppinamogaru and the operation is still being carried. The operation was on clearing out water from within the houses.

At this time, the NDRF were carrying their operation. In the evening around 6pm the rain stopped for a little while and two hours after which the rain water started to flow out completely. Yet, the city officials stayed alert and carried precautionary measures. In the city under the leadership of nodal officer, operation preparedness was maintained the whole night.

After the rain stopped the city has gone silent. The following day, the rain water which had inundated the roads, entered homes and created widespread problems drained at some places. At some other places the water still remains.  The people are terrified after their valuables were completely drenched in the rain water.

“May the rain which fell on Tuesday never repeat itself” was the talk of the people. “Enchina Barsa Marey… Yenklena illad ulaig neer. TV, fridge mata chandi. Niklena illadavulu dadatand…” was the message trend on Facebook and Whatsapp.
