MangaluruRains#, MangaluruFloods# was the hashtag trend on Twitter and many users took the district administration to task. They said that incessant rains has shown the lack of basic facilities in Mangaluru. They questioned why the district administration was a sitting quietly even though they knew that Mangaluru receives heavy rains. Who is responsible for the present situation? They vehemently questioned.
People have voiced their concern the unfinished highway work, unfinished flyover, lack of drainage, lack in preparation for monsoon, non-functioning of emergency work, illegal construction of buildings on areas mean for drainage and many more. Many users compared Mangaluru flood with the major flooding that happened last time in Mumbai and pointed out that the district administration had failed to learn from that incident. They also asked to question the representatives of the people on what steps had the district administration taken in preparation for the monsoon.
“Every year this is the story everywhere. Today Mangaluru tomorrow Mumbai. Nobody has learnt the lesson. Nobody will learn,” tweeted a user Mitraji Bhattacharya.
