Mangaluru: A journalist here has registered a complaint against a bus conductor for not accepting a Rs 10 coin. The journalist, Harsha, said that he was on a city bus travelling towards Bunts Hostel Circle. When he gave the conductor the Rs 10 coin as fare for his ticket, he refused saying that nobody accepts them. He adds that even after explaining to the conductor that refusing to accept a legal currency that is not demonetised by the government is a punishable crime, he did not budge. Harsha has now filed a complaint against the conductor at the Traffic Police station and at the RTO office and claims to have been assured of inquiry by the officials. In 2016, RBI in a statement had advised that 'people should ignore ill-informed notions about the Rs 10 coins and use them for transactions without hesitation.' In the same year, authorities in Uttar Pradesh's Philibit district had issued an order stating that those refusing to accept the Rs 10 coins will be charged with sedition.
