Mangaluru: In a news conference here on October 6, the leader of opposition in the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Abdul Rauf has stated that the wrong decisions taken by the municipal corporation in managing the Central Market during the COVID-19 crisis
He said that the market was closed down due to the COVID-19 crisis and all the traders shifted to APMC yard in Baikampady without proper arrangements. This has led to the destruction of the livelihood of the people working there and complete stoppage in revenue collection from the market.
He added that the illegal temporary market being set up on the pavement near the town hall has cost the MCC more than Rs 4.5 lakhs along with the rents. This shows the complete lack of planning by the BJP-ruled MCC.
He also stated that when Congress was running MCC there was no trouble meted out to traders and vendors while markets were developed at and Urwa, Kavoor, Alake, Kadri, Kankanady and Bejai.
MCC members Praveen Chandra Alva, Vinayraj, Bhaskar K, Anil Kumar, Keshava, Lancelot Pinto, Shamshuddin and others were present in the conference.
