Mangaluru: Newborn found abandoned at Service Bus Stand

Mangaluru: A newborn baby was found abandoned at the State Bank Service Bus Stand in the city on Thursday and is being treated in the ICU at the Pediatric Department of Wenlock Hospital.

The baby boy, who is estimated to be a week-old, was found abandoned near a light pole in the evening. The bus drivers who noticed the infant alerted the police. Locals said they saw a man and a woman carrying the infant at the bus stand earlier in the afternoon.

The Pandeshwar police who rushed to the spot, took the newborn to the Lady Goschen Hospital, which referred it to Wenlock Hospital for advanced care.

Dr. Basith of the Paediatrics department at the Wenlock Hospital told Udayavani, that the child’s health is fluctuating. Minor injuries were seen on the baby’s head. The infant also has convulsions and was found with a tube placed in its nostrils. “The male baby is about one week old,” he added.

Meanwhile, police have begun an investigation to trace the parents of the child.
