Mangaluru: Woman accuses doctors of issuing inaccurate disability certificate

Mangaluru: In a letter written to District Administration and Health officials, Devaki, a mother of six and a half-year-old daughter has accused the doctors at Wenlock hospital of issuing incorrect disability certificates.

Devaki hails from Ichilampady village in Kadaba Taluk of Dakshina Kannada district. Tanusha, her daughter suffers from hearing loss.

Devaki has written to the district administration asking them to include her daughter in the list of endosulfan victims, accusing the doctors at Wenlock hospital to have given an inaccurate disability certificate.

Devaki is a BPL card holder, because of which she can’t afford to send Tanusha to conventional school. She informed that Tanusha was taken to a health camp in Puttur where she was diagnosed with 63% of hearing disability.

On January 25, when Tanusha was taken to Wenlock hospital, the doctors there issued a certificate that stated 25% of disability.

Devaki alleged that the doctors at Wenlock had not conducted any tests and that the certificate was inaccurate.

Calling this a typical case, Dr Naveen Chandra, District Endosulfan Nodal officer explained that the earlier test was done on screening level, whereas the test at Wenlock hospital was done with audiometry, machinery set up used for similar tests.

He even mentioned other cases where reports given by individual doctors get disapproved at district levels.

Meanwhile, Sanjeeva Kadaka, an RTI activist asserted that the officials wanted to reduce the number of endosulfan victims.
