Mangaluru’s famous Jyothi Talkies to be redeveloped

Mangaluru: The city’s half a century old iconic Jyothi Talkies is set to be redeveloped into a commercial complex.

The movie theatre created loyal audiences for itself as it was the only theatre in the city for a long time to consistently show Tulu movies.

Many Tulu movie industry insiders have stated that the theatre has made immense contributions in aiding the creation and sustenance of the industry in its early days, becoming an unofficial ‘headquarters’ for the industry.

Kannada movie celebrities such as Rajkumar, Vishnuvardhan and Ambarish had visited the theatre to release their movies.

The work on the new commercial building will start sometime early next year said the owners of the theatre. Adding that a Mumbai-based builder has been contracted for the redevelopment work.

It was not known whether the new commercial complex will include a new movie theatre.
