MESCOM recently clarified that consumers cannot defer payment of electricity bills for three months since they have not received such directions from the Centre.
It is said that the Monthly bills would be generated through average billing amount or the previous month’s bill in the system and they would be sent to consumers through mail/ WhatsApp/ SMS. But, people claim that the Mescom is charging double amount to its consumers.
Earlier, the monthly bill was generated by meter reading by a Mescom employee. But due to the Covid-19 lockdown all customers will be sent bills based on average or last month's bill amount which has caused chaos among consumers.
Also, Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (MESCOM) has said that customers must pay the bills through digital platforms. There has also been issues in the online payment of the bills as last month’s bill has not been deposited in Mescom’s account due to employees being on leave. Hence, last month’s amount has also been included in the bill.
However, MESCOM claimed that, From May 1, the regular meter reading and distribution will be carried out and any differences in actual usage and meter reading will be adjusted in subsequent bills
