On Monday (September 5), the Officers of Mangaluru Customs intercepted three male passengers at MIA arriving from Dubai who attempted to smuggle gold in paste form contained in four nos. of black coloured packets concealed in two pairs of sandals and gold in the form of very thin paste concealed within the double-layered vest (Baniyan) worn by the passenger. After extraction, three rectangular gold bars of 24-carat purity totally weighing 897 grams valued at Rs. 45,65,730 were seized. Further investigation is in progress.
On Tuesday (September 6), the Customs Officers of MIA seized 190.250 gms (net) of 24-carat gold valued at Rs. 9,74,080 from a male passenger hailing from Kasargod, Kerala arriving from Dubai by Air India flight IX 384. The gold was concealed in the form of powder pasted using solid gum between two layers of paper sheets separated with carbon sheets and wrapped around the checked-in carton box carried by the passenger
