Chandan (15), Rakesh (14), Sujan Shetty (14), Anup (14), Varun (14) and Renu (14), all students of St Lawrence English High School in Kamakshipalya, had left home around 4.30 pm on Monday saying that they were going to tuition classes.

“Around 8.15 pm, Sujan’s mom called his tuition teacher to ask what time the class would end. She was told he had not gone to the class. We waited for one more hour thinking he will be at a friend’s home. However, he didn’t return. We made an inquiry and couldn’t find him,” said Sujith Shetty, Sujan’s uncle. By the time the parents of the other students also realized that the kids were missing they approached the police.

One of the students had a cell phone, however it was switched off. This scared the parents even more. Under the supervision of Vijayanagar sub-division’s assistance commissioner of police, a few police teams were shaped for the investigation. On Tuesday, at around 3.30 pm, Rakesh’s father Shivalingaiah came to know that the students were at his sister’s home in Magadi.

“My sister does not have a cell phone. I was near the Kamakshipalya police station when a relative called. I quickly informed the police. We don’t know why the kids went to Magadi,” he said.

“Every one of them are good students. We are trying to find out what influenced them to go missing,” said Likith, secretary, St Lawrence School.
