BJP candidate Kota Srinivas Poojary won one of the seats from Dakshina Kannada Constituency, getting a clear majority of first preference votes in the first round of counting on Monday. Congress candidate Manjunath Bhandary came second in the first round of voting.
Of the total 6011 votes polled, Poojary got 3672 first preference votes, whereas Bhandary got only 2079. SDPI candidate Shafi K came a distant third with 203 votes. As many as 56 votes were found invalid.
By default, Manjunath Bhandari will get the second seat as there is no chance for the candidate in the third position to overtake him in the next round of counting.
