M'luru: Residential apartments penalised for not setting up waste processing units

Mangaluru: Ten residential apartments have been penalised with an amount of Rs 1.45 lakhs by the Health and Environment Department of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) for not installing waste processing units despite frequent notices. MCC had set the date of February 10 from which it started to penalise those apartment buildings that have not set up the units. Some apartment buildings that still do not have a functional unit/s but have already started setting up of such units have been spared from the penalty. Municipal Commissioner Shanadi Ajith Kumar Hegde said that in a meeting on July 7, 2019 information on the enforcement of the Municipal Solid Waste Rules 2016 was shared with residential apartments, educational institutions, hostels, eateries, marriage halls, meat vendors, small business and builders and on September 27 details on processing wet waste was also shared despite that many have still not initiated any action hence they are being fined.
