Mangaluru: In the backdrop of the state government decision to withhold Rs 10-lakh ex-gratia announced for the kin of the police firing victims during anti-CAA protests on December 19, various organisations and public have extended financial assistance to the families as well as those injured in the incident.

According to a TOI report, over Rs two crore has been collected so far but there is no official confirmation regarding this.

The report also hinted that the money started pouring in after Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa withheld the ex-gratia until the role of those killed in the police firing was clear. The police in its FIR has named the two dead – Abdul Jaleel and Nausheen – as accused.

Sources revealed that people of Mangaluru and other parts of the country and even abroad have chipped in money to help the affected people.

Confirming that financial assistance has been pouring in from several quarters, former MLA BA Moiuddin, who is among those who are involved in collecting the funds said that the funds so collected will be distributed to the families of Jaleel and Nausheen and those injured in the incident within a month.
