On Thursday, the minister visited various places that suffered damage due to the heavy rains. He also examined the sea erosion problem along Ullal-Someshwara limits. He arrived to Udupi after taking part in a meeting at the District Commissioner’s office and a press conference. He then conducted an inspection meeting in Udupi.
6 crore rupees for D.K., Udupi
Speaking at a press conference Deshpande said that the district administration must set aside 5 crore rupees as relief for natural calamities. As D.K. district administration has 3.9 crore rupees with itself, 3 crore rupees has been released to equal the amount. Udupi district administration has 5.51 crore rupees with itself, therefore 3 crore rupees have been released, he said.

5 lakh rupees compensation which includes 1 lakh rupees from the CM’s relief fund, will be given to the family of the victim. 7 people have died in D.K. district and the compensation has been given three families. Amidst this, 748 houses have sustained damage and 167 acres of crop has suffered damage in D.K. district. He intimated that attention needs to be given to providing quick relief for the affected. Currently, 5000 rupees relief amount has been provided to partially damaged houses. The government is conducting inspection to increase this amount, he informed.
Officials’ holidays cut!
During the monsoon, officials of all the departments need to perform actively. Therefore, intimation has been sent to all the district administration to cut down holidays of all the officials save for emergency reasons, he said.
“There is no fund shortage for natural calamity’
Udupi: Enough funds have been released to district commissioners for relief work and to make the relief distribution convenient, at least 10 lakh rupees need to be transferred into the accounts of the Tashildar and Assistant Commissioner directed the minister Deshpande during the meeting.
He asked to recognize the incidents of tree falling on houses as complete damage.
Officials must rush to the location and not wait for an application
Deshpande directed the officials not to wait for the application from the people affected by a natural calamity and instead make haste to the location where natural calamity has occurred, carry inspection and provide comfort to the affected. He informed the district commissioner to call revenue department officials for a weekly meeting on natural calamity. Raghupati Bhat and Lalaji Mendon put forth the problems of land conversion and problems in Kaup respectively. MLA Pratap Chandra Shetty said that Mescom failed to respond quickly in Kundapura division.
