Bengaluru: Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar has stated that more oxygen units will be created across Karnataka. This comes after the minister visited the Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) where they had to shift all its patients on ventilators to other hospitals on Monday night after it exhausted its stock of oxygen. Sudhakar visited KIMS on Tuesday, August 18 and revied preparations and oxygen stockpile there. Due to the huge demand of oxygen caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, hospitals across the State and country are facing shortages of oxygen for ventilators as producers are unable to meet demand. In view of this, the minister made the announcement to increase the oxygen production capacity in the State. Additionally, the minister also said that due to the shortages there are also complaints of increase in prices of oxygen for which, if need be, the government will regulate their prices.
